This Saturday Jordan Brand will release an Air Jordan 5 in a brand new colorway... or will they? Let me explain, while the Midnight Navy version of the latest Air Jordan 5 has never been released before, it is actually an original colorway. Created by Tinker Hatfield during the original release of the 5 in 1990, the "Midnight Navy" was intended to be another colorway on the "Grape" palette but was ultimately held back. Now, in the wake of the many recent "Hornets" related releases, the shoe is getting a second chance at life due to its similarity to the colors of the Michael Jordan owned NBA franchise.
The premium leather upper and midsole wear the Midnight Navy color that closely resembles the deep purple found on Charlotte's uniforms, while turquoise accents on the shark teeth and the main Jumpman logo are more explicitly in tune with the Hornets scheme. Silvery grey on the mesh panels and 3M tongue provide the contrast and the signature icy blue outsole completes the look. While not officially an OG color or officially a Hornets color, these are officially a hot sneaker.
